Are you concerned about what your teenager is doing while you’re not around? Do you want to make sure they don’t sneak out at night? A security system can definitely help with these concerns.
Security systems don’t have to be designed just to keep intruders out of the house. They can also help you to keep track of your family members. With a few simple modifications, you can turn your security system into a “track my teenager” system.
How might a system be designed to do this? There are a few options:
Door and window sensors
These sensors are placed on doors and windows to help detect activity on these items. Once the system is activated, opening one of these doors or windows will sound an alarm, and our monitoring center will notify the contacts you have listed on your call list. With WH Security’s new free alarm notification service, you can also receive a text or email notification when one of your alarms is triggered. Your teenager will have a hard time sneaking out when these sensors are armed!
Cameras
Cameras have come a long way in the last decade, and I wish I had installed a few when I was trying to track my teenager. It’s easier than ever to view activity in your home through the use of cameras. With WH Security’s Interactive Security Services remote home security control, you can have cameras installed and view their activity from any location via the Internet. Keep in mind that there are a couple different types of camera services:
- View activity in real time over the Internet. This camera service allows you to log on to a secure website and see the activity occurring in your home – even though you are not there. See who your teenager has over and check to see if they’re doing their homework.
- Receive an alert (along with a video clip) when there is activity in your home. Thanks to infrared cameras, you can activate these strategically-placed cameras and will be able to have video clips sent as a text alert or to your email account any time motion occurs within their range.
In/out reports
This is a service typically used by businesses that wish to record their open and close times, and keep track of their employees. However, it can also be incorporated as a valuable part of your “track my teenager” system. Basically, we will program your system to record any time a door (or window) is opened and closed. You can then choose to get daily, weekly or monthly reports of this activity. (There are additional charges for this service.)
Security systems can do much more than just keep intruders out. Keeping track of your teenager is just one of many creative ways to use your security system. Technology has sure come a long way in the last few years.
