When considering the benefits of a home security system, what usually comes to mind is protection from burglary. Security systems reach far beyond that, and can protect your home from a variety of other threats. One important danger you can protect against is a house fire.
You may be thinking, “I have a smoke alarm in my home, I test my batteries often and will hear it go off if there is a fire.” However, during the times when you are away, at work or on vacation, a smoke/fire sensor could save your home.
The National Fire Protection Association reports that in 2010 there were 369,500 home fires in the U.S. These fires caused more than 13,000 injuries and multiple deaths. After a fire has started, it can go from a small to major fire in just 30 seconds. Due to the dry wood inside walls, sheetrock and carpet, if the fire department isn’t notified until the neighbors see flames, it will likely be too late to save the home. Older homes are especially prone to fast and hot fires as the wood within the structure has had years to dry.
The smoke and fire sensors offered by WH Security are designed to detect the presence of smoke and/or a significant increase in temperature. When either occurs, the alarm will go off immediately, and at the same time, dispatchers will be contacted who can notify the fire department on your behalf. If you’re home when an alarm is triggered, an audible siren – similar to a traditional smoke alarm – will alert you of the potential threat.
Smoke and fire sensors can be added onto most home security systems, and do not increase WH Security’s monthly monitoring cost. They’re a small investment that can protect you, your home and valuables from a potentially devastating fire.
