Video surveillance has become one of the fastest growing markets with WH Security. Many of us are very interested in keeping an eye on our properties while away, and with today’s market there are many products and options to choose from. Here are a couple things to keep in mind when looking for video equipment to purchase.
- Be careful of what the manufacturer promises the video equipment can do. Many people have the impression that the video images will have the same high definition quality we see on our televisions at home. There is video equipment on the market capable of this type of quality, however, it can be expensive. The average system provides a quality image for viewing and won’t be as expensive.
- Video equipment has many varying specifications when it comes to installation. The location where it is going to be installed will dictate the equipment needed. For example, outdoor cameras should have infrared (IR) capabilities for the camera to see at night without the need of separate lighting. IR cameras have different capabilities for seeing distances, so make sure the camera fits the application. Outdoor cameras should also be placed in a higher location to avoid tampering of any kind.
- One of the most popular types of cameras moving into the mainstream is the IP camera with Megapixel technology. These cameras give great viewing images for end users to enjoy. Most camera systems now have an app for remote viewing on a smart device like our cell phones. This allows you to access your surveillance equipment from anywhere and view what’s happening at your property in real-time.
There is a lot to learn about video surveillance, so don’t be afraid to ask questions. At WH Security, we want our customers to not only feel safe but also feel knowledgeable about the capabilities of their video equipment when paired with their security system.
